Our vision

With a human and global perspective, we offer leading education and research within nursing and health.

Unique profile in education, research and collboration

A human and global perspective in nursing and health defines the Swedish Red Cross University’s unique profile in education, research and collaboration. The university is guided by the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – Red Cross nurses are ambassadors with unique competence, skills and professional pride who have the ability to meet vulnerable individuals of diverse backgrounds.

The Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

  • Humanity
  • Impartiality
  • Neutrality
  • Independence
  • Voluntary service
  • Unity
  • Universality

These seven Fundamental Principles sum up the Movement's ethics and are at the core of its approach to helping people in need during armed conflict, natural disasters and other emergencies.

Training highly respected and valued nurses

Training highly respected and valued nurses since 1867, the Swedish Red Cross University is one of the most popular universities in nursing education in Sweden. Founded with Emmy Rappe as its first director, it is considered as the first non-religious nursing educational institution in Sweden.

The university provides a critical service to society and about 200 nurses and 50 specialist nurses in intensive care, infectious care and psychiatric care graduate annually from the Swedish Red Cross University. We also contribute to increasing the competence among clinical supervisors by offering specific training courses.

The University has approximately 850 students at undergraduate and advanced level and 70 employees.

Health Sciences in a Global Perspective

The Swedish Red Cross University conducts current research in health sciences in a global perspective within an academic and stimulating environment. An international perspective is present and permeates both education and research at all levels. The university also has extensive collaboration with both national and international partners.

We make a difference together

Furthermore, we strive to be a quality-driven organization and an attractive employer with a creative working environment that involves our employees. Through our being responsible and open to learning, committed and humble, we make a difference together.

By constantly learning, being responsible, committed, and humble we make a difference together.

Campus Flemingsberg

The Swedish Red Cross University is located at Campus Flemingsberg in the Swedish capital Stockholm together with five other universities. This enables broad and active participation in a vibrant campus setting and creates natural meeting places with other students on their way to different professions. Students are offered a study environment with successful pedagogy and professional support.
