Competence development at the Center for civic orientation

Recently, the project A Safer Future contributed to a training session for civic orientation communicators within courses coordinated by the Centre for Civic Orientation. The training focused on the life situation, rights, health, and well-being of forced migrants who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or other queer identities or expressions (LGBTQ+). Project members gave presentations and participated in discussions with the communicators.

From the project, Rummage Isaac, Maria Gottvall, and Tommy Carlsson took part in the training day. The project A Safer Future has an ongoing collaboration with the Centre for Civic Orientation. The Centre coordinates courses for newly arrived individuals in Sweden. These courses provide information on various topics relevant to newcomers.

- We shared our work with the dedicated communicators who conduct courses to newly arrived migrants in Stockholm. It was truly inspiring to hear their perspectives and to discuss together how to engage in open and meaningful conversations on key societal topics such as sexual and reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and forced migration, says Rummage Isaac who is a PhD student at the Swedish Red Cross University.
