Swedish national Competence Center for Rehabilitation of Torture and War Trauma
The Swedish Red Cross has extensive expertise, both nationally and internationally in the field of torture and war trauma rehabilitation. On this basis, the national Competence Centre for Rehabilitation of Torture and War Trauma has been developed.
The Swedish Red Cross Competence Centre for Rehabilitation of Torture and War Trauma was founded in April 2020. The Competence Center aims to contribute to knowledge and evidence regarding the treatment of and support to people affected by torture and war. In the long run, contributing to better services provided and better quality of life of people concerned.
The Competence Center is located at the Swedish Red Cross University College, and its focus areas are:
- Inventory of primary needs to link clinical work with education and a long-term vision of research
- Operational responsibility for initiating projects related to knowledge development within the subject area
- Creation of relationships and collaboration with authorities, national and regional healthcare agencies, and various units and departments within the Swedish Red Cross
- Promotion of collaboration between experts and actors in this field in Sweden and internationally.
Change for better health and improved well-being
Many efforts are already made today to provide support and treatment to people suffering from war or torture trauma. Focusing on the survivors, the Competence Center aims to put the patient and the person at the centre of its work.
